Panasonic Showroom
An Interactive Showroom Experience
Problem
Panasonic Connect looked for a catching and innovative way to showcase new holographic displays in a showroom in Tokyo, Japan.
Solution
An interactive installation was developed in collaboration with Aaron Schwerdtfeger. Visitors are given the ability to control and influence which content appears on the screens in real time through a specially designed web application with MQTT to ensure global scalability.
Concept
The goal was to make visitors become active participants of an interactive experience. This would highlight the functionality of the screens and leave a long lasting imprint.
The user experience starts by scanning a QR Code which turns the user’s smartphone into a multipurpose remote control for the screens.
Users are offered a series of interactive tasks. They can influence complex particle systems on the screens with swipe gestures or by blowing into their device. Next to that, non-interactive video content can also be displayed.
The installation is structured into four successive phases inspired by the four seasons. Each phase introduces its own visual language.
Implementation
Users scan a printed QR Code in the showroom linking to the custom web app coded with native HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
This app communicates via MQTT with a local laptop running a modified version of Touchdesigner where the data is analyzed and used to display particle animations on the screens connected to the laptop.
